What do you daydream about?
It’s 6pm and I’m perched by the window sill with a large glass of Pinot Noir in my left hand, overlooking the Aegean Sea in my villa in Santorini. The breeze blowing through my hair, the relaxing waves crashing against each other and the warm evening glow brushing my cheeks. I specifically asked for this villa because it came highly recommended by my travel consultant.

'Watching the sunset in Santorini will be one of the most beautiful things you will ever see in your life', she said. So here I sit, glass in hand and my camera all set up to capture one of the most picturesque sunsets I can ever see. As I take another sip of wine, I’m startled by the loud blaring horn from a passing truck and that is when I am jolted back to reality. It’s 2am and I am in Lagos, Nigeria, the city that never sleeps.

Images like the sunset in Santorini are what play in my head 90% of the time. Okay, let’s bring that down to 50% so I don’t sound like a girl that has entirely nothing to do other than create and live in imaginary worlds.

The mind has powers beyond our imaginations. It can teleport you to destinations beyond the reach of your physical body. You have no idea how active the mind can be, especially when the world is asleep. Some nights when insomnia kicks in and I can barely sleep. I find myself having these wild imaginations, living in my own world that I have created for myself in some of the most beautiful destinations in the world.

“Daydreaming” can be a powerful tool especially for someone with a love for travel and exploration. So even within the “Lagos madness” I still find time to daydream. I daydream about watching the sunset from my villa in Santorini, going on a safari in Botswana, falling asleep to beautiful views of the city lights from my penthouse suite in Manhattan, enjoying Sunday Mass at St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City, cheering for my favourite football team as they win El Classico in Camp Nou, staring into the heart of the Grand Canyon, cruising around the French Riviera in the summer or spending an evening gambling in Monte Carlo. I dream about shopping till I drop on Fifth Avenue and playing dress up in the luxurious stores in Champ-Elysees.

I could go on and on about my wildest travel imaginations but one blog post wouldn’t be enough.

So how about we make this fun, tell me what you daydream about and who knows, we might just end up helping each other realize our dreams. Like Jennifer Lee once said ‘Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire’. Travel is my passion and daydreaming opens up the world to me and gets me closer to actually visiting and exploring these magical places.

Join me on this adventure as I explore and share my journey. Let me hear from you...

  11. Fantastic write up Dumkele. Your exuberance is refreshing. I've always loved the colors of Santorini but my dream vacation is a luxury cruise of the Hawaiian Islands with a different Luau every night and waterfall, rainforest, beach, and volcano visits during the day.

@Nadalchukwu, I volunteer myself as tribute, The love of your life is me. I am the love of your life. Lol. But seriously,
the Santiago Bernabéu is definitely on my bucket list.

  16. Nice writeup dear. Maybe I'll visit Plovdiv. The city is a treasure trove of archaeological wonders, with sites from antiquity, including two ancient amphitheaters, set beside Ottoman baths and mosques and the remainders of medieval towers. A sight to behold.
